The chemicals used in the making
of METH are hazardous by nature by themselves. Add them all
together over heat is a disastrous recipe.
The cooking of these nasty chemicals inside a house, apartment,
hotel, etc. leaves a hazardous waste operations that should only be
addressed by trained individuals. Depending on the recipe used,
phosgene gas can be generated which is very toxic.
If you believe you have a METH lab on your rental property, or
neighboring house, it is best to call the local police. They will
remove the criminals and drugs leaving behind a potentially dangerous
residue on the walls, acid and other chemicals in the drains and septic.
Villa Environmental Consultants, Inc., can aid you in the process of
testing the house to see if a clean up is needed. If a clean up is
needed, we can conduct clearance sampling to verify that the clean up is
successful.
Expect to see a lot more regulations from local health departments
and the state regarding the clean up of the labs.
UPDATE! Kalamazoo County recently passed their
own ordinance regarding the sampling required to determine if a meth
house is clean enough for occupancy.
The state of Michigan passed a slew of laws dealing with meth clean
ups including a law that requires the Department of Health to develop
science based clean up levels.
